According to the Khmer Times, the local aviation sector is developing rapidly, resulting in the rapid expansion of the country’s fleet.
There are currently seven airlines operating in Cambodia, with a complete fleet of 30 aircraft. Four years ago, there have been only two airlines operating in the dominion.
“At least three new airlines plan to begin operations in 2018, and several existing airlines plan to further expand their fleet. By the end of 2018, Cambodia’s fleet will likely reach 40 aircraft.”
Sinn Sereyvutha, spokesman for the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, said KC International Airlines, Prince International Airlines, MJ International Airlines, Air Siem Reap and Cambodia Airways have applied for licenses to enter the local market but are still waiting for his or her applications to be approved.
“These companies have been interested in the local aviation market since last year, but it takes time to consider their applications. Sometimes it takes up to six months,” he said.
“In addition, a few of these firms were unable to fulfill a few of our requirements. For example, each airline must contribute between $20 million and $30 million to its operations in the primary three years, not including aircraft, and must employ no less than 100 employees.
“When they begin operating on our market, they’ll create many roles and introduce recent technologies,” he said.
JC International Airlines, an ambitious start-up that launched lower than a 12 months ago, could grow to be Cambodia’s largest airline by the top of 2018, based on fleet size. Cambodia Angkor Air and Sky Angkor Air are currently the most important and most reputable local airlines.
