Bangkok ranks second amongst Asian destinations in the newest edition Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS).
The rating, which measures social and environmental sustainability strategies, industry supplier support and the Convention Bureau’s strategy and initiatives, also recognized the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) as the perfect performer in comparison with other Asian convention bureaus that participated within the survey .
The International Congresses and Conventions Association (ICCA) recently presented GDS-Index awards to the highest five tourism destinations recognized for sustainable practices within the business and events tourism industry.
The top five cities with the very best overall scores are: Gothenburg (Sweden); Copenhagen (Denmark), Reykjavík (Iceland), Oslo (Norway) and Uppsala (Sweden).
According to the index, the five Asian cities with the very best overall scores are: Tokyo, Bangkok, Goyang (South Korea), Sapporo (Japan) and Dubai (United Arab Emirates).
Bangkok was ranked second in Asia and twenty first on the earth by the GDS-Index.
The rating was measured in 4 key areas: town’s environmental strategy and infrastructure (14 topics); town’s performance when it comes to sustainable social development (4 topics); support for industry suppliers (8 topics); and Convention Bureau (CVB) strategy and initiatives (12 topics).
Overall, Bangkok received an aggregate rating of 58%. The city achieved a 69% CVB performance rating, higher than the worldwide benchmark of 53%.
TCEB president Chiruit Isarangkun na Ayuthaya said it was the primary time that Bangkok and TCEB had participated within the GDS-Index and the office was delighted with the result.
