Heathrow topped the rankingsOAG Megahubs International Index 2017‘ with a transparent margin. On at some point in July, greater than 72,000 international connections were possible between flights arriving on the airport and flights departing inside six hours.
This list includes THREE airports within the region. Congratulations!

2. Frankfurt Airport
3. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
4. Chicago-O’Hare International Airport
5. Toronto Pearson International Airport
6. Singapore Changi Airport
7. Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport
8. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
9. Kuala Lumpur International Airport
10. Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris

Frankfurt and Amsterdam Schiphol took second and third place respectively, meaning the highest three are Europe’s leading hub ports.
Chicago O’Hare and Toronto Pearson rounded out the highest five. Twelve of the highest 50 airports are within the US, and 7 of them are in the highest 20.
Istanbul Atatürk, ranked fifteenth, is second only to Frankfurt within the variety of destinations served, with routes to 270 destinations worldwide.

It’s similar with Singapore Changi The highest-ranked international megahub within the Asia-Pacific region with over 35,000 possible international connections in a single day in July, closely followed by Indonesia’s Soekarno–Hatta International. The top fifty include 16 airports from the Asia-Pacific region, including China’s three largest airports: Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Airport, home to AirAsia, topped the rankings in a separate index of international low-cost calls (see chart below).



The next three airports within the rating are Soekarno–Hatta, Singapore Changi and Delhi. All are positioned in South Asia and Southeast Asia, “demonstrating the success of low-cost carriers in meeting international travel needs within the region,” the OAG said.
Note: OAG, an aviation intelligence company, is tasked with compiling international data meganodes the index ranks airports by calculating the entire variety of possible connections between arriving and departing international flights inside a six-hour period.
