The Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) office on the Plant Protection Agency (BKT) Bogor Botanical Garden in Pasuruan, East Java, on Monday revealed the invention of a brand new species of orchid endemic to Java, bamboo gastrodia, IN Phytotaxesinternational scientific journal.
The publication was co-written by LIPI-BKT scientist Destario Metusala and University of Indonesia (UI) conservation biology researcher Jatna Supriatna.
Destario said Bamboo gastrodia belonged to the group of holomycotropic orchids, whose orchids were often called “ghost orchids” by world scientists.
He said he and other researchers have named a brand new species of orchid Bamboo gastrodia to discover bamboo as its specific habitat.
“Based on population and species data Bamboo gastrodia are endemic orchids in Java, especially West Java and Yogyakarta,” Destario said Rate.
Destario continued Bamboo gastrodia was an endemic orchid found only on the island of Java, particularly in West Java and Mount Merapi in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Population ghost he added that the variety of orchids is decreasing because of habitat destruction.
Destario further explained that Bamboo gastrodia it grew in a dark and humid environment, all the time near thick and old clumps of bamboo.

“It’s no surprise that the genre has a ‘horror’ connotation,” Destario said Between.
Like other holomycotropic orchids, orchids Bamboo gastrodia it doesn’t contain chlorophyll, so it doesn’t perform the photosynthesis process. The orchid species can be not parasitic.
“Its life cycle depends on the organic supply of nutrients through symbiosis with a mycorrhizal fungus,” he said.
“We hope that the invention will strengthen biodiversity conservation in the longer term,” Lia to said Jakarta Post Office.
