This 4-star global airline is having fun with growth in revenues and passenger numbers

Vietnam Airlines, Vietnam’s state-owned air carrier, is on the right track to realize its profitability targets this 12 months, reporting significant growth in cargo and passenger traffic in the primary half of the 12 months.

Consolidated gross profit was estimated at VND 830 billion, representing almost 51% of the 2017 goal, based on 18% year-on-year revenue growth to almost VND 43 trillion.

In the primary half of the 12 months, Vietnam Airlines’ passenger numbers increased by 6% to 10.3 million, with a rise of 9.3% on domestic routes. Freight volume exceeded the carrier’s goal, increasing by 24%.

As a licensed global 4-start airline in response to Skytrax with strong services and products across travel classes, the airline observed an on-time performance of 91.3% in the primary half, with over 70,400 flights within the six-month period. This result increased by 6.1 points year-on-year and was 3.3 points higher than the goal.

Mid-2017 also marked two years since Vietnam Airlines began operating two recent generation aircraft: the Airbus A350-900 XWB and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Vietnam Airlines announced that it has expanded its Boeing 787-9 fleet to 11 aircraft and 165 pilots, and now has seven Airbus A350s with 106 pilots.

The additional aircraft will enable Vietnam Airlines to operate nonstop flights to the US West Coast and carry 305 passengers in three premium classes, Airbus said when announcing the deal last September.

Regarding income growth, Vietnamese Minister of Transport Truong Quang Nghia said, as quoted by: Travel weekly“Despite quite a few difficulties, the corporation has achieved vital development milestones, especially in maintaining the punctuality rate, the standard of services at the next level in comparison with previous years, meeting our expectations as a national airline and fulfilling the tasks entrusted by the party and the state, in addition to ensuring sustainable business development.”
