Official media reported on Friday that a brand new airport was under construction in Mrauk U, an ancient Myanmar city in western Rakhine state, as a part of the federal government’s efforts to develop the region’s tourism industry.
Construction of the brand new Mrauk U airport, which began on the eastern side of town along the Sittway-Yangon highway near Nankyar village in 2015, is predicted to be accomplished in 2021.
The original Mrauk U airport was positioned in the traditional archaeological zone, while the brand new one is being built away from this zone.
Once the brand new Mrauk U airport is accomplished, the variety of tourist arrivals to the region is predicted to extend.
Rakhine State, one in all Myanmar’s least developed ethnic states, shows promise as a tourist paradise as a result of its long coastline and wilderness areas.
Meanwhile, Myanmar is searching for to have Mrauk U, a region with historic cultural evidence, included on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) list of World Heritage Sites.
The preliminary draft application to inscribe the Mrauk U region on the World Heritage List is predicted to be submitted in September 2018, with the ultimate application due by January 2019.
