Dr. Mahathir shared the key of his longevity with the world

What is Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s secret to staying healthy and mentally sharp despite his old age?

Moderator Fareed Zakaria couldn’t resist asking this query through the second annual Bloomberg Business Forum on September 26.

“I don’t know exactly, but I follow a strict diet. I don’t overeat. I exercise a bit and sleep six hours,” said Dr Mahathir, who was a panelist together with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

“If you lead a fairly well-regulated life, you’ll survive. But when you get some incurable disease, there’s nothing you’ll be able to do.

This prompted a spontaneous remark from Rutte to Ardern.

“It means you and I can still be Prime Minister at the age of 90.”

Ardern then responded: “I even have to say that if I live to be 90, I don’t need (to be prime minister).”
