Indonesian e-commerce unicorn Tokopedia, together with super apps Gojek, Grab and five other startups, have signed a partnership with the Jakarta government to speed up the event of a wise city project within the capital.
In a press statement, Tokopedia announced its recent position as an economic partner of the federal government. The company will train small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to organize them to compete and contribute to the economy within the digital age.
“This collaboration aims to invite technology companies like Tokopedia to support digitalization in Indonesia in the business and public service sectors. This partnership opens up opportunities for citizens to digitally integrate with various sectors so that they can benefit from online services such as accessing public services or starting a business,” said Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan in an official statement issued by Tokopedia.
In addition to Tokopedia, the federal government has also appointed two more e-commerce giants, Bukalapak and Shopee, as partners to create a “smart economy” in Jakarta, local media reported.
The government can be working with Gojek and Grab to speed up the introduction of a protected and integrated transport system through a wise mobility program. As a part of the partnership, each platforms may also designate specific pickup points for patrons in public facilities and tourist destinations.
Gojek will moreover integrate a column dedicated to the official government tourism portal “Enjoy Jakarta”, allowing users to book tickets to varied tourist attractions and events within the capital.
The smart city concept has been adopted by the Jakarta Provincial Government since 2014. The concept consists of six primary pillars, namely smart governance, smart people, smart living, smart mobility, smart economy and smart environment. Through a series of programs and partnerships, Jakarta is anticipated to completely transform into a wise city by 2025.
