The 20 busiest air routes on the earth by passenger numbers

What is the busiest airline route on the earth? From New York to Washington? London to Paris?

The correct answer will surprise you. The most coveted flight on Earth is definitely the 450-kilometer hop from Seoul Gimpo International (stop giggling) to Jeju International. According to Routesonline.com, in July 2017, over 1.28 million passengers passed through the 2 South Korean airports, almost twice as many as the closest rival.

Second on the list is Sapporo-Tokyo Haneda with 688,394. New York-Washington and London-Paris don’t even make the highest 20. In fact, only two of the highest 20 routes don’t have an Asian city.

The study, which used OAG to investigate the world’s 50 highest-capacity routes in July 2017 after which ranked them in line with Saber passenger statistics, found that the Asia-Pacific region dominated the world’s 20 busiest flights, with only two routes outside the region that makes up the table.

With a median base price of $68.48, the most cost effective route in the highest 20 was Ho Chi Minh City (SGN)–Hanoi (HAN), and the most costly was Okinawa Naha (OKA)–Tokyo (HND) at $320.92. The average ticket price in the highest 20 was $142.77.
