Grab opens a regional center of excellence in Malaysia

Grab has launched its regional center of excellence in Malaysia – the second demonstration of its “strong” investment within the country. The first is to open yours research and development center in Kuala Lumpur last month.

Grab Malaysia CEO Sean Goh explained that the back-to-country investment is an element of Grab’s response to Malaysia’s call for public-private partnerships to understand the country’s Industry 4.0 plan and digital economy ambitions, Technology in Asia reported.

He added that the brand new office in Bandar Utama, called the Regional Center of Excellence, could accommodate 400 latest employees – it currently employed about 600 people.

He said the corporate is seeking to expand its data analytics, legal, marketing, finance and customer support departments.

“The Malaysian technology and engineering team will play a key role in raising the bar for safety standards in Southeast Asia and achieving our goal of zero preventable incidents on the platform,” he said Star.

International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Darell Leiking praised Grab for responding to the federal government’s call for high-quality investment by creating high-value local jobs.

“We are happy that Grab is giving back to Malaysia by committing to nurturing local technology talent and facilitating knowledge transfer through the R&D center,” he said on the launch.

The recently expanded 54,000-square-foot office space will house the corporate’s “core business strategy and operational functions,” including legal, customer support, financial services and artistic services.
