Indonesia’s latest passport design to be unveiled on Independence Day 2024

Indonesia plans to alter the design and hues of its passports, with the brand new versions set to be issued on the country’s eightieth independence anniversary on August 17, 2025.

“These preparations are scheduled to begin on August 17, 2025, and the project will be presented on August 17, 2024,” Silmy Karim, director general of immigration on the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, said on Friday.

Silmy explained that the redesign and color change efforts are supposed to symbolize growth and progress. He reiterated the Immigration Department’s commitment to offering the safest and highest quality passports and mentioned that the updates will include advanced security measures.

According to Silmy, international regulations require passport security improvements every three years. The latest passports will include these security improvements, corresponding to latest color schemes and verification processes. “For example, there will be UV light features and additional holograms. Further details on photo printing methods will be provided later,” Silmy explained.

Currently, Indonesian passports have light blue or turquoise covers for general passports, blue covers for official passports, and black covers for diplomatic passports. Current passport covers feature a golden Garuda bird emblem. As of January 2020, Indonesian passports provide visa-free access to 85 countries and territories.
