“Each year, as part of our World’s Best Awards, T+L asks readers to rate their travel experiences around the world — to share their thoughts on the best cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines and more. Readers rated cities on their attractions and landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping and overall value,” the article quotes.

There are many reasons to like San Miguel, a colonial treasure anchored by El Jardín, a green square with outdoor cafés and the pink church of Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel. Art and textiles are big here: Mexicans and expats alike flock to independent boutiques selling artisanal goods, and no trip is complete with out a visit to Fábrica La Aurora, a former textile factory that has been transformed right into a series of up to date art galleries. Restaurants serving delicious Mexican cuisine (wealthy moles, spicy gorditas, stuffed chili peppers) are tucked away along cobblestone streets lined with historic homes. For among the finest views of town, book a table at Rosewood San Miguel de Allende’s Luna Rooftop Tapas Bar (it’s also ranked because the No. 2 City Hotel within the country); the margaritas go well with the sound of church bells at sunset.
