Taiwan extends visa-free entry for 3 Southeast Asian countries until July 2025

Good news for travelers from the Philippines, Thailand, and Brunei! Taiwan has prolonged its visa-free policy for passport holders from these three countries from August 1, 2024 to July 2025.

This policy expansion is an element of the “Trial Visa-Free Program” that demonstrates Taiwan’s commitment to strengthening ties with partner countries under the “New Southbound Policy” and promoting tourism in Taiwan. The statement was issued by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Consular Affairs Bureau on June 4.

Following the April 12 meeting, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and related agencies reviewed visa policies, including a trial visa-free program for residents of Thailand, Brunei, and the Philippines, a simplified visa policy for group tourists from Southeast Asia, and a conditional visa-free policy through the TAC online application program for Southeast Asian residents. Based on the success of those measures, Taiwan prolonged the pilot visa-free program for Thailand, Brunei, and the Philippines for one more 12 months.

Travelers from these countries, apart from diplomatic and official/service passport holders, can use this visa-free program for stays of as much as 14 days. To enter Taiwan, they have to provide proof of accommodation reservations, contact information for the host or sponsor, and sufficient funds for travel.

Taiwan also announced the extension of the Simplified Visa Regulation Project for Group Tourists from Southeast Asia until December 31, 2025 and can maintain the Travel Authorization Certificate (TAC) program for Southeast Asian residents.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs will proceed to review and improve visa policies to extend tourist arrivals while ensuring border security and public safety.
