Singapore Airlines (SIA) has been named one in all 50 “brilliant companies” in Time magazine’s first annual list.
According to Time magazine, the businesses identified have “invented the future,” are “driving progress now,” and are “one to watch to see what they do next.”
As Time reports in its latest issue, the businesses were chosen based on aspects reminiscent of originality, influence, success and ambition.
SIA is the one Southeast Asian company on the list and one in all a handful of Asian corporations to make it, alongside tech company DJI and Xiaomi from China, in addition to Nintendo from Japan.
It can also be the one airline on this list.
Other global corporations that made the list include Airbnb, Amazon, Apple, Disney, Netflix, Nike and SpaceX. Companies should not ranked.
In its article on SIA, Time noted that the airline was named the world’s best airline in 2018 by Skytrax. SIA also earned the title of “World’s Best Airline” based on reviews on popular travel website TripAdvisor.
SIA spokesman Nicholas Ionides said: “We are honoured to be recognised by Time as a number one innovation driver. Our business model is built on three key pillars: product leadership, service excellence and network connectivity, and as a part of our ongoing transformation programme, we’re investing heavily in strengthening all three of those areas.
“It is encouraging to be recognised for the initiatives we are implementing to enhance our customers’ travel experiences and strengthen the SIA Group.”
The latest accolade comes because the airline prepares to restart its 19-hour service from Singapore to New York’s Newark Liberty International Airport on Thursday (11 October), regaining its title because the carrier offering the world’s longest non-stop flight.
SIA operated the identical route from 2004 to 2013 but discontinued it resulting from the unsustainability of operating costs.
The recent route might be operated by an ultra-long-range Airbus 350-900 aircraft, which SIA might be the primary to fly.
In the low-cost travel segment, the group’s division coping with low-cost airlines Scoot can also be developing.
Scoot announced on Monday that it has taken delivery of the primary of 39 Airbus 320neo aircraft from Toulouse, France.
The delivery marks the beginning of a fleet renewal plan for Scoot’s single-aisle aircraft, with the A-320neo aircraft set to operate Scoot’s short- and medium-haul regional services, the airline said.
The aircraft will make its first flight from Singapore to Bangkok on October 29.
