Rajeswary, known on social media as Esha, said the person used her photo and threatened to “rape and kill” her and in addition “hurt” her.

“He said he had the gang’s support and encouraged his followers to retweet the live stream https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMif2h0dHBzOi8vd3d3LnNjbXAuY29tL25ld3MvYXNpYS9zb3V0aGVhc3QtYXNpYS9hcnRpY2xlLzMyNjk0NzgvbWFsYXlzaWFuLXRpa3Rva2tlci13aG8tZmFjZWQtcmFwZS10aHJlYXRzLWZvdW5kLWRlYWQtY29uZG9taW5pdW3SAQA?oc=5 “for me,” Rajeswary said within the report.

She added that along with the sexual and lewd comments allegedly made by the perpetrator, many individuals who watched the session also made abusive comments to her.

Rajeswary was considered one of the organizers of the mass recital Kanda Shasti hymn performed last month on the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple in Batu Caves, Selangor.

Her distraught father P. Appahu, 62, who’s the caretaker of the temple, said: “She was a really strong person. I do not understand why this happened.”

Meanwhile, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said he would meet with TikTok representatives next week to debate governance of the social media platform.

He added that representatives of other agencies, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), may even attend the meeting.

“Although we have repeatedly reminded the public to be careful about what they post to avoid a similar situation, it appears that our assurances were not enough.

“Regarding the management and administration of social media platforms, I have already expressed my sadness and anger to them because we see that they do not realize the seriousness of cyberbullying.

“This is one of the reasons we need to look at the governance of social media platforms.

Another “God willing, in a few days I will call a meeting between the MCMC, TikTok, AGC and a few others so that we can discuss in detail the complaints we have received,” Fahmi told reporters on Saturday.

The minister expressed his sadness upon receiving news of the activist and said the federal government was committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.

“But we want systemic change because we are not sure how many people suffer in silence due to cyberbullying,” Fahmi said.

According to the MCMC, the activist didn’t submit a report back to the commission about this particular case of cyberbullying.

However, Fahmi said he knew she had filed a police report.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said there was a rise in reports of online attacks and abuse in recent times.

“The Government takes these complaints very seriously.

“Steps are being taken to prevent such incidents and respond appropriately when they occur,” Gobind added.

He said relevant ministers similar to himself, Fahmi, Interior Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Law and Institutional Reforms Minister Azalina Othman Said were implementing measures and regulations to cope with online harm.

“I spoke about this with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

“We will discuss this matter further with the Council of Ministers next week.

“Rest assured, we are taking urgent steps to resolve this issue,” Gobind said.

According to Gobind, the relevant bodies and authorities are specializing in making a structure that may protect people from online abuse and harm, and proper registration of social media accounts is considered one of the problems being considered.

He advised those harassed on social media to not suffer in silence but to approach the authorities and file appropriate complaints.

Sentul Ahmad Sukarno Deputy Commissioner Mohd Zahari confirmed that the victim had filed a police report following threats she received on social media.

“It’s a shame she left.

“But without her statement we are unable to take the matter any further,” he said.

Ahmad Sukarno said the lady had also filed similar complaints to the police up to now.

He added that investigations were recently initiated against her for alleged misuse of network infrastructure under Section 233 of the MCMC Act.

Ahmad Sukarno said the lady’s death was being investigated by the Gombak police in Selangor state.
