When planners in China were asked to construct a brand new railway line through a residential area, they got here up with a option to get around the issue of demolishing homes: they built the tracks to run all the way through their property.
A light-weight rail track has been designed to run directly through a gap in a 19-story residential block in town of Chongqing, positioned within the southwest of China.
This is a convenient solution for high-rise constructing residents who can board the train on the Liziba station, positioned on the sixth to eighth floor of the constructing.
And for those who’re nervous about noise, the constructing has been specially insulated and is alleged to be no louder than a dishwasher. Planners also say the train line has added value to the apartments since it’s so convenient for transport links.
The Chongqing area, often called the “Mountain City” for its countless skyscrapers, is some of the densely populated areas in China, with nearly 49 million residents.
Planners behind the monorail said they were forced to develop a plan to cope with overcrowding in town.
City transport spokesman Yuan Cheng told the Daily Star: “Our city could be very densely built up, which may make finding space for roads and railways an actual challenge.
“Sometimes there’s just no room on the bottom, so we have now to think about going under, over, or on this case – straight through.
“In a city as rapidly expanding as this one, it was clear that individuals desired to get around quickly. Extending the railway in this fashion was dangerous, however it paid off.”
The monorail station opened in 2004 in an area often called “Mountain City” on account of its extremely hilly terrain.
