Hoi An outshines Bangkok and Bali to secure fourth place amongst 2024’s best cities on the planet

The renowned American magazine Travel+Leisure announced the outcomes of the World’s Best Awards 2024. In this prestigious poll, Hoi An, an enthralling ancient city in Vietnam, proudly secured the title of the fourth most beautiful city on the planet and the third in Asia.

The announcement was made on July 16, placing Hoi An among the many world’s 25 favorite tourist destinations and the 25 favorite places in Asia, based on readers’ selections. The award provides insight into the world’s best tourist destinations based on criteria akin to culture, cuisine, friendliness, attractions and shopping opportunities.

This prestigious award, now in its twenty ninth 12 months, is predicated on the votes of greater than 186,000 Travel+Leisure readers. These readers collected greater than 700,000 reviews on greater than 8,700 properties, including hotels, cities, cruise lines and other travel services.

Hoi An’s extraordinary achievement makes it the one city in Vietnam to make the list, with a rating of 90.67. This achievement places Hoi An among the many world’s favorite tourist destinations, alongside San Miguel de Allende (Mexico) in first place, Udaipur (India) in second and Kyoto (Japan) in third.

Hoi An has also outshone other famous cities on the planet akin to Chiang Mai (Thailand), Florence (Italy), Bangkok (Thailand), Tokyo (Japan), Ubud (Bali, Indonesia) and Funchal (Portugal).

The award recognises Hoi An as a culinary paradise, famous for its banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) and cao lau (roasted pork with thick Vietnamese noodles), that are favourites of many. The town can also be a dream destination for history buffs, with its ancient architecture and well-preserved trading port, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Hoi An was once a bustling trading port. Today, the town is a surprising mixture of ancient and modern architecture. Its streets are lined with yellow and brown houses, lit at night by colourful lanterns.

The iconic Japanese Covered Bridge can also be a significant attraction. The city offers various historical temples and sacred sites akin to Ong Pagoda, Ong Dia Temple, Son Pho Temple and Ngu Hanh Hy Hoa Temple.
