The Ministry of Transport says the federal government has not neglected the opportunity of converting the bullet train connecting Jakarta and Surabaya in East Java right into a high-speed project if it proves technically feasible.
Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the ministry is currently in search of consultants from Japan to conduct a feasibility study for the project, which is scheduled to be accomplished by the tip of this 12 months.
“It depends. If it is possible, the project can turn out to be a high-speed project,” he said after a gathering on the State Palace in Central Jakarta.
The Jakarta-Surabaya project is a component of the federal government’s efforts to revitalize the prevailing railway line. It will probably be converted right into a medium-speed line with an estimated capability of 160 kilometers per hour.
The project is predicted to cut back travel time between the 2 cities from the present 12 hours to 3 and a half hours. The first phase of the project could require funding of US$2.6 billion.
