Jack Morris took a leap of religion five years ago after waking up one morning and deciding he wanted adventure. He quit his job as a carpet cleaner in Manchester, UK, the 26-year-old booked a one-way ticket to Bangkok and has never regretted it.
“It was literally me waking up one morning and wanting to try something different. I went off on my own, with no plan, and just wanted to see what was out there,” he said.
Traveling for years, Jack met Lauren Bullen. Lauren, 23, is a self-taught photographer from Australia who goes by the name Gypsea Lust. They met in March 2016 after they were each traveling to Fiji. They then began embodying the travel, fashion and lifestyle mantras of essentially the most incredible place on Earth.
Using Instagram as their platform, the pair – who currently live in Bali – have gained an enormous following in such a brief space of time. Jack said that within the nine months since they met, Lauren has gained over 700,000, while he has benefited from over half one million.
“I think it was because we were putting together photos with Lauren, and people like to see couples, and that suited us,” he said.
Now that Jack has 2 million Instagram followers, and Lauren is correct behind him with 1.2 million, the couple earns enough money from brands and travel firms that sponsor them to completely support regular adventures all over the world, in addition to having a base in Bali. In a recent Q&A on his official website, DoYouTravel, Jack shared a couple of suggestions that helped him and Lauren achieve Instagram fame, and it is advisable to take note.
“I edit all my photos in the same style, using my own Lightroom presets,” he said of their dreamy “match” effect, adding that the couple mostly shoots about an hour after sunrise, because that’s normally the quietest time of day.
Jack said he avoids Instagram filters and all the time takes the time to ensure that his photos match. Jack also revealed that he and Lauren, often called Gypsea_Lust, take all their photos themselves, and all of their photos together are taken using a tripod with a handheld remote control with a timer.
The couple reportedly won’t charge lower than $3,000 for the position. He added: “We try to find a balance between living at home in Bali, working while traveling, and traveling for pleasure. Our goal is to visit at least one new country per month, non-work-related, which is often a last-minute decision.”
Despite their workload, the duo realizes how completely satisfied they’re. “It’s almost a dream come true. Being able to do what I want every day is nice,” he said.
“It’s a perfect solution, I didn’t expect to find anyone to share it with, so it all worked out really well.”
