Voice of Baceprot (VoB), a metal band consisting of three teenage girls wearing hijabs from Garut, West Java, Indonesia, recently became a web hit and gained attention from Indonesian national media.
They break stereotypes with their headscarves and love of metal music, all while still attending highschool.
The band members: Firdda Kurnia (lead guitar and vocals), Widi Rahmawati (bassist, vocals) and Euis Siti (drummer) are 15-16 years old, but have been playing together since 2014. They first gained popularity of their hometown and won several local band competitions.

Describing their genre as hip metal funky, they draw inspiration from bands similar to Muse, System of a Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eminem, Sublime, Metallica, Linkin Park, Tool, Gigi, PAS Band and Netral.

But it was their original single “Enemies of the Earth” that propelled them onto the national stage. Since its release on April 3, the song about environmental degradation has been shared 11,445 times on their Facebook fan page.
The trio said the band was formed out of their teenage angst. “We may look unusual to most people. The music world has been negatively stereotyped, and we want to break those stereotypes by not only wearing a modest hijab, but also playing hard.”
