Other projects include the $3 billion Patimban deep-sea port in West Java and a $487 million project to affect and double the variety of lanes to 4 on a railway line connecting Manggarai Station in Central Jakarta and Cikarang, an industrialized area in West Java.
“We are waiting for the signing of a preliminary agreement between the Ministry of Transport and JICA [Japan International Cooperation Agency]”- said Luhut Pandjaitan, Minister of Coordination of Maritime Affairs, on Wednesday (04/01).
Japan’s Transport Minister Keiichi Ishii visited the Patimban port last week and met along with his Indonesian counterpart Budi Karya Sumadi to finalize talks on the projects.
Japan is thinking about transport projects after losing a bid to China in 2015 to construct Indonesia’s first high-speed rail line, connecting Jakarta and Bandung in West Java.
