RANKING: Southeast Asia within the Global Competitiveness Index 2017–2018

The latest World Economic Forum Global Competitiveness Rankings for 2017-2018 paint a mixed picture for Asia, in addition to Southeast Asia.

The Global Competitiveness Index 2017-2018 covers 137 countries and assesses improvements in areas corresponding to infrastructure, the macroeconomic environment, in addition to healthcare and first education.

In 2017, the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Index ranked 137 economies, compared with 138 in 2016 and 2015, 144 in 2014, 148 in 2013 and 144 in 2012.

Seasia has gathered information in order that we will understand how Southeast Asian countries are performing within the context of worldwide competitiveness.

Myanmar (Burma) was not included within the report.

Almost unchanged, the Philippines’ rating places it behind most of its neighbors within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN): Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

Brunei and Vietnam overtook the Philippines to take fifth and sixth positions within the region, respectively. Brunei rose 12 places this 12 months, while Indonesia improved 5 places.
