According to a report by air travel analytics company OAG, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) is the best-connected airport within the Asia-Pacific region.
According to the most recent AOG Megahub Index, released on Wednesday, Jakarta airport topped the list of Asia’s top 10 “megahubs” with a connection index of 566, ahead of Japan’s Haneda Airport (418) and Australia’s Sydney Airport (389).
CGK is alleged to have gained recognition following plans to introduce major changes over the following five years, expected to cost around 30 trillion Indian rupees ($22.2 billion), in a bid to attain five-star status and develop into a global transport hub.
“Strong growth continues across the Asia-Pacific region as more and more new aviation markets open. Equally impressive is that Soekarno-Hatta maintains a high level of connectivity while aggressively developing the terminal infrastructure. Demand in and to/from Indonesia remains strong, so keeping pace with this airport is clearly a challenge,” OAG vice chairman of product management Mark Clarkson said in a press note.
Meanwhile, on the list of the 50 best-connected airports on the planet, based on the variety of connections available and the variety of destinations served, Jakarta took seventh place. It is alleged to serve greater than 40,000 potential connections between flights inside six hours during peak periods, connecting passengers to as much as 71 destinations. (mra/kes)
