The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, warmly welcomed the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong, during his visit to the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. The meeting was a major moment in strengthening the bilateral ties between the 2 nations, which have long had close relations.
In his remarks, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for Prime Minister Wong’s visit and highlighted the long-standing cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore, each bilaterally and inside ASEAN. He noted that each countries share similar views on key regional issues, especially peace, stability and prosperity in Southeast Asia.
President Prabowo also emphasized the potential for further cooperation in several strategic areas of common interest, including: defence, law, trade, investment, food and energy security and human resources development. He stressed the importance of maintaining positive momentum for the good thing about each nations.
Prime Minister Wong’s visit included in-depth and productive discussions along with his delegation. President Prabowo described the talks as useful for searching for brand new directions of future cooperation. As a part of his commitment to this strong partnership, President Prabowo has confirmed that he’ll attend a leadership retreat in Singapore next yr.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong expressed gratitude for the nice and cozy welcome from President Prabowo and the Indonesian government. He also emphasized the special importance of this visit, because it was his first official state visit under the leadership of President Prabowo.

Before the meeting, an official welcome ceremony took place with full honors. Prime Minister Wong arrived at Merdeka Palace from Monas Square escorted by a cavalry unit and a marching band. Upon arrival, he was directly greeted by the President of Prabowo. The ceremony continued with the playing of the national anthems of each countries:Come on, Singapore AND Indonesia Raya— accompanied by a 19-gun salute, after which each leaders will inspect the consideration guard.
This visit marks a brand new chapter in Indonesia-Singapore bilateral relations, reaffirming the commitment of each leaders to deepen cooperation for stability and progress within the region.
