Insert money, go digital: Malaysia leads the world in mobile wallet usage with a 63% utilization rate.

These findings are based on the Adyen Index 2024, a retail report published by global financial technology platform Adyen.

The report further highlighted that 41% of Malaysian consumers use mobile-enabled solutions corresponding to tap-to-pay, while 36% of respondents said they now not carry physical wallets. The growing preference for digital payment methods is driving demand for streamlined in-store experiences corresponding to kiosks and one-click checkouts.

In response to changing consumer behavior, corporations are adopting progressive strategies to extend customer loyalty. Notably, 73% of outlets are leveraging social commerce and personalization tactics. The emphasis on social media aligns with the report’s findings that 73% of Malaysians use social media when shopping, above the worldwide average of 44%.

Social media platforms have grow to be a big shopping channel, especially amongst Millennials and Generation Z. This trend is dominant, with 80% of respondents saying they made purchases on social media within the last yr.
