Indonesia confirmed its status of probably the most wanted diving place in Asia, along with the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam. This rating relies on the most recent survey conducted by the ADODA digital travel platform, which emphasizes the preferences of divers divers throughout the region.
The study collected answers from 850 divers in 11 key Asian markets – namely Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The study conducted in February 2025 via the Agode platform provides comprehensive insight into the evolving trends of tourism diving in Asia, especially in Southeast Asia.
Thanks to over 17,000 islands and its strategic location in the guts of the coral triangle, Indonesia has long been a magnet for international divers. His stunning maritime biological diversity and breathtaking coral reefs make it an ideal place for underwater enthusiasts.
Southeast Asia: Global diving hotspot
Southeast Asia still attracts divers around the globe due to wealthy sea ecosystems. In his 2025 SCUBA SINEDSADODA emphasized that Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand are the three hottest diving places in Asia, while Malaysia and Vietnam finish the highest five.
Thailand stays the perfect alternative amongst Vietnamese travelers due to crystal clear waters and world -class diving places. However, the nice interest of diving tourism can be visible in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines – especially amongst Vietnamese tourists.
Relaxation and exploration: Main diving motivations
The AGODA survey showed that the most important reason why divers travel is the experience of the peace of the open sea. About 30% of respondents mentioned leisure as their most important motivation, especially those from the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand.
In addition, 24% of travelers attract the underwater world as a result of its mysterious charm and wealthy biological diversity. This emphasizes the charm of the ocean as an experience, which just isn’t only exciting, but in addition deeply calming.
Short trips with an emphasis on experience
While travelers appreciate budget -friendly accommodation, 40% are able to spend as much as 30% more on the perfect diving experience. Current trends indicate that short trips are the popular alternative, and 48% of divers choose holidays lasting from 4 to 7 days, while the following 41% packed, but satisfying weekend trips.
Coral reefs remain the perfect attraction
The complementary 75% of divers consider the locations of the coral reefs of their preferred destinations. Vibrant colours and abundant marine life in Asia make diving within the region needed experience for ocean lovers.
