Hendra Setiawan: Legendary Badminton Master of Indonesia

Badminton enthusiasts will once more be witnesses of the star performances of among the best Indonesian movements, Hendry Setiawan. Who is Hendra Setiawan?

Hendra Setiawan was born on August 25, 1984 in Pemalang in Central Java, Indonesia. He is the youngest child in his family. His father, a badminton coach on the local club in Pemalang, aroused the interest of Hendry Badminton when he saw him playing.

He began a proper training on the Sinar Mutiara Tegal club, where he built his fundamental badminton skills. Later he moved to Jakarta and enrolled in Sekolah Olahraga Ragunan, a sports school coping with cultivating athletes, where he improved his skills to turn out to be an expert badminton player.

Travel in Badminton

Like other children, Hendra’s first ambition was to turn out to be a physician. However, after winning the varsity championships, his passion for badminton became stronger, turning him right into a serious dream.

In 2001 he began a world profession within the Asian junior championships and won bronze medals within the boys’ team and double mixed events. As his profession progressed, he decided to focus on double men after realizing that there’s a greater potential for fulfillment on this category on this category.

Hendry’s first partner was Markis Kido. They made their debut, winning the silver medal on the Asia Championships in 2003. Their partnership brought many victories, including the achievement of the worldwide rating No. 1 in 2007 and securing the foremost titles. In 2012, Hendra Setiawan began a brand new chapter with Mohammad Ahsan. Return of the legend

It seems that “retirement” doesn’t mean ending for Hendry Setiawan. He has a return throughout the 2025 World Championships BWF Senior on the Eastern National Sports Training Center in Pattaya, Thailand.

This time it’s going to compete in two categories – double and mixed double – connecting with the legendary players of Tony Gunawan and Debby Susanto. Thanks to those badminton icons outside, fans can expect an exciting tournament and a rare opportunity to see the epic performances of among the biggest athletes from Badminton in Badminton.
