The digital connectivity of Indonesia is moving forward. After the successful launch of the Satrix Satellite 1 in 2023, a brand new satellite named Nusantara Lima (N5) was published within the United States in September 2025. In cooperation with the American Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (Spacex), that is the fourth release attempt after the Falcon 9 rocket failed Nusantara Lima couldn’t be launched.
The Nusantara Lima satellite would require about 125 days to succeed in a stationary orbit, so it is predicted that it would start full operations on April 1, 2026. This means a major milestone to attain a good domestic digital communication, especially in probably the most external, most adversarial and most distant regions (3T).
Specification
Komdigi (12/9) greater than just an enormous swimming machine in orbit (12/9) explained that with a capability of 160 Gb/s, using satellite technology with a really high bandwidth (VHTS), occupying a strategic orbital nest within the 113 degrees east or “golden spot”, it will probably include all Indonezia and strengthened connectivity within the region Eastern. It is claimed that this satellite can provide web access services within the Philippines and Malaysia. This makes N5 claim that it’s the most important satellite in Southeast Asia.
N5 is owned by Nusantara Lima satellite (SNL), subsidiary Nusantara satellite lanes (PSN), through the worldwide partnership with Boeing Satellite Systems, Hughes Network Systems and Spacex.

Although the Nusantara Lima satellite produced with the support of international partners, the management and use of the Nusantara Lima satellite are completely in favor of Indonesia, serving as a tangible demonstration of the work of Indonesians through the PSN Group, a pioneer within the national satellite industry.
To access the Nusantara Lima satellite, eight ground stations (gates) strengthens the control channels, capability and satellite communication in a band Aceh, Bengkul, Cikarang, Gresik, Banjrmasin, Tarakan, Kupang and Makassar. The development of the bottom station network and satellite operation are also carried out by local talent to strengthen the digital ecosystem and national technological independence.
A small thing matters
According to the PSN website, there are numerous stories about children who need to wait hours for a signal during school education. Medical staff also has difficulty sending patients’ data on account of unstable calls. The N5 satellite is here to vary this attitude, emphasizing that the Internet isn’t any longer an expensive thing, but by law for each citizen.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid also added that children in Maluk and Papua may have the identical access to education, identical to children in Jakarta. Patients on small islands can seek the advice of one of the best doctors, and small corporations can compete within the digital world. Digital capital is a rule that is vital nowadays

The presence of this satellite is a logo that Indonesia not only observes the worldwide trend of digitization, but in addition independent in ensuring technological infrastructure to all people.
This N5 also shows that Indonesia just isn’t only a consumer, but in addition a producer of one of the best technologies.
