The local businessman and former non-resident ambassador to Morocco officially launched his campaign platform on Monday.
In an announcement, Goh said the proposed annual report card would come with all its activities and decisions made in the course of the 12 months. This includes signing bills, speeches given and funds raised.
Viewing government announcements within the electronic diary is “the one option to know” whether the president is carrying out his caregiving responsibilities unless reserves are tapped, Goh said.
Alternatively, the president may present a report at the tip of his six-year term.
“This opacity keeps the public unaware of the president’s caregiving responsibilities as his ceremonial and social roles are publicized,” Goh said.
If elected, Goh also goals to leverage his philanthropic experience, business network and office status to boost A$1 billion ($737 million) for social welfare organizations and small charities that receive less recognition.
The 63-year-old submitted eligibility forms on August 4, formally announcing his candidacy for the largely ceremonial role, local newspaper The Straits Times reported.
