In this yr’s Wildlife Photography Awards, 40 finalists presented funny photos of animals in funny poses. The competition received 3,500 entries from 86 countries around the globe.
Tanzanian photographer Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam founded these awards to spotlight wildlife conservation. “Conservation was always at the heart of the competition, as was the fact that people enjoyed the photos of animals having fun!” Sullam said in a press release.

As they explain, this annual competition is a response to “the necessity for a photography competition that’s carefree, optimistic, as unpretentious as possible and mainly depicts wild animals doing funny things.”

“Raising awareness through photography, engaging people and using humor as a positive reinforcement of good things, rather than focusing on the negative images that have been used in the past,” he added.

“Photos are selected based on their funness and technical quality,” Joynson-Hicks explained. In addition to this yr’s competition, CWPA has published two books: “Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards” AND “Wild and Crazy: Photos from the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.”
The winners of the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards will likely be announced on December 14.
