Malaysian fried chicken vendor dies after fainting and falling into hot wok oil

Cook frying chicken in Malaysia died on Tuesday after he fell face down right into a wok crammed with hot oil, local media reported.

According to Malaysian newspaper China Press, 58-year-old Liu Youcai was frying a chicken cutlet at his stall in Kangsar city at around 1pm (local time) when he suddenly lost consciousness.

While Liu was unconscious, his face was immersed in his wok. Liu’s assistant called for help and with the assistance of other traders on the grocery store, he managed to avoid wasting Liu, China Press reported.

Liu was still respiration on the time and was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Kuala Kangsar. However, he was pronounced dead at 2:21 p.m., in keeping with China Press.

Local funeral home, Chee Hong Funeral Management Services, posted details of Liu’s funeral service together with photos of him.

China Press published a video from the accident scene showing rescuers helping Liu.

Liu’s brother, Liu Youming, told Malaysian website Sinchew News that the autopsy report showed the explanation for death was asphyxiation and second-degree burns attributable to smoke inhalation.

Before his death, Liu was diagnosed with hypertension and high cholesterol, Liu Youming told Sinchew News.

People have been posting tributes on social media to Liu, whom they call “Big Brother Cai.”

“I will always remember the taste of your chicken rice, thank you for providing me with such delicious chicken rice, and at such a low price,” wrote one person.

According to the funeral home, Liu’s funeral took place at 11 a.m. Thursday.

The same incident occurred in 2021 when a 25-year-old chef in Iraq fell right into a large cauldron of chicken soup he was preparing for a marriage.

He suffered third-degree burns to his body and died five days later.
