Indonesia is pushing for faster entry into the “elite league” of developed countries

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia has expressed its strong commitment to speed up the mixing process with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

This strategic move goals to align national economic policies with higher international standards, while strengthening Indonesia’s position as a regional leader in promoting inclusive and sustainable ASEAN economic integration.

OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann pledged to make efforts to speed up Indonesia’s accession to the organization. Although Cormann couldn’t guarantee a selected timetable, he promised to make every effort to be sure that Indonesia becomes a member.

Cormann also stated that there are not any obstacles for Indonesia to affix the OECD. He stressed that the main focus is on reforms that may profit residents, especially by way of improving incomes and living standards.

He also highlighted the support of US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for Indonesia’s accession, which reinforced Indonesia’s strong commitment to the method.

Is it possible if Indonesia joins BRICS but goals for OECD?

Cormann stated that Indonesia’s plan to affix BRICS is not going to affect its accession process to the OECD. He stressed that the OECD respects Indonesia’s independent foreign policy and its independence from any bloc. Indonesia’s accession process will proceed to be assessed in keeping with applicable standards.

Indonesia now joins Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Peru, Romania and Thailand within the queue for OECD membership.

Indonesia can also be conducting a self-assessment of its national policies, regulations and standards against OECD instruments, which will likely be submitted later within the Introductory Memorandum.
