In 2024, Volocopter, a German start-up that produces electric flying taxis, desires to fly from Singapore to neighboring countries similar to Indonesia and Malaysia for the primary time.
Ticket prices haven’t yet been determined, but in accordance with Christian Bauer, Volocopter’s chief business officer, the corporate will initially operate between 10 and 20 air taxis. The entire fleet will fly to Singapore’s top tourist attractions, including Marina Bay and Sentosa.
The airline’s network will then expand to incorporate cross-border flights to Indonesia and Malaysia. By 2030, Volocopter plans to construct 4 to 6 VoloPorts in Singapore. Marina South, Sentosa and Changi are still into account.
Volocopter remains to be working to acquire accreditation from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, which can allow it to operate air taxis in Europe and Singapore.
However, the corporate is currently selling tickets for a 15-minute flight in an electrical flying taxi.
“In terms of production, we have assessed it and we have another 12 months to see if we can do it or if there is other potential,” Bauer said in a press release published on February 16 within the Hindustan Times.
As a part of its Asian expansion, Volocopter also plans to open a technical service center in Singapore. In addition, the corporate will conduct a feasibility study in Asia on the production of electrical aircraft for vertical take-off and landing.
Internal evaluation shows that as a pioneer in urban air mobility (UAM), Volocopter’s UAM services can generate a projected S$4.18 billion in cumulative economic advantages and 1,300 local jobs by 2030.
In the post-pandemic future, AMU will even be an enabler of the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and a driver of economic growth.
In a customer survey in Singapore, 72 percent of respondents expressed great interest in traveling with VoloCity.
“Basing our APAC headquarters in Singapore has enabled us to rapidly expand into other countries in the region.”
“For example, we formed a joint venture with Geely in China, joined the Osaka Round Table in Japan, and conducted the first test flights of a crewed public air taxi in South Korea.”
“We believe that the launch of UAM in Singapore will truly strengthen Lion City’s position as one of the most innovative cities in the world,” commented Christian Bauer, Commercial Director of Volocopter.
