VinFast became Vietnam’s first indigenous carmaker in 2019 when it began selling two gasoline-powered cars within the domestic market: the Lux A2.0 sedan and the Lux SA2.0 SUV. Now the nascent company has revealed ambitions to expand into North America and Europe, with U.S. sales expected to start in March 2022. Globally, electric crossovers will dominate the automaker’s portfolio.
VinFast sold about 30,000 cars in Vietnam last 12 months. Although the corporate has yet to show a profit, it’s growing rapidly in Vietnam, where this 12 months it became the fourth hottest automotive brand with 8.3% market share. The company is a subsidiary of Vingroup JSC, the most important conglomerate in Vietnam. In a press release on Monday, Vinfast said it has launched offices in North America and Europe and plans to construct showrooms in California within the near future. Additionally, the corporate said that Van Anh Nguyen, CEO of VinFast within the United States, has moved from Vietnam to the United States.
VinFast has said it needs more capital to realize its growth goals, indicating it should either pursue an initial public offering on a U.S. stock exchange or merge with a special purpose vehicle (as electric vehicle startup Lucid Motors did this 12 months).
Initially, VinFast planned to announce an offering within the second quarter of this 12 months, looking for $2 billion in money, however the offer has been postponed, in accordance with Reuters.
VinFast currently produces five cars. Details on versions designed specifically for the United States haven’t yet been revealed. VinFast had planned to sell 56,000 electric vehicles in 2022, but the worldwide shortage of semiconductor chips forced the corporate to lower that concentrate on to fifteen,000 units.
