The ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF) 2023, organized along with the forty first ASEAN Energy Ministers Meeting (AMEM-41) under the theme “Accelerating Energy Connections to Achieve Sustainable ASEAN Growth”, successfully concluded with remarkable achievements.
Organized by the ASEAN Energy Center (ACE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) of the Republic of Indonesia, the event successfully brought together energy ministers from ASEAN and East Timor, energy ministers from ASEAN dialogue partner countries, energy industry leaders, in addition to experts and scientists from across the ASEAN region and beyond.
The foremost objective of the Forum, which took place in Nusa Dua, Bali on August 24-26, was to foster discussion, cooperation and recent ideas to seek out sustainable solutions within the energy sector. The Forum is anticipated to be an element stimulating changes within the energy sector.
The AEBF 2023 with the theme “Accelerating Energy Connectivity to Achieve Sustainable Growth of ASEAN” is of great importance. The event is a component of Indonesia’s drive as ASEAN Chair to put ASEAN at the middle of regional and global economic progress, which in turn opens up opportunities for sustainable growth and development.
Dr. Nuki Agya Utama, Executive Director of ACE, said significant progress has been made on measures to support the transition within the energy sector. AEBF 2023 is usually a very essential solution and a bridge that plays a job in facilitating interactions between businesses and the energy industry and the governments of ASEAN member states.
One of the sessions organizing this forum is a panel session at AEBF, which provides a platform for knowledge exchange, dialogue and cooperation between industry leaders, government representatives, academic experts and professionals. Discussions covered topics similar to the energy transition, grid connectivity, clean energy efforts, critical minerals, the usage of natural gas, low-carbon investments, the role of coal within the energy transition and lots of other issues.
ACE also strengthened its commitment to promoting energy cooperation, sustainable development and innovation within the ASEAN region. This was achieved by signing a variety of substantive memorandums of understanding with key regional and international partners.
These MoUs were officially signed on the forty first ASEAN Energy Ministers Meeting (AMEM-41) in reference to AEBF 2023 on August 25, 2023, within the presence of ASEAN Ministers and dialogue partners. This motion highlights the importance of this cooperation in shaping the energy landscape within the region.
ACE partners are diverse and produce different expertise and resources to strengthen the region’s energy sector. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is according to the ASEAN Action Plan for Energy Cooperation (APAEC), Phase II: 2021-2025 and covers activities similar to interconnecting cross-border power grids between Indonesia and Malaysia, accelerating renewable energy integration through the ASEAN Power Grid, strengthening clean energy cooperation with China, promoting energy efficiency financing and constructing strategic relationships with agencies similar to UNOPS, GIZ, KDB, EFC, JICA, ADB, JETRO, in addition to academic institutions. This collaboration reflects ACE’s leading role in promoting sustainable energy development and cooperation within the region.
At the top of the AEBF, the event also celebrated achievements within the energy sector through the presentation of ASEAN Energy Awards. The awards recognize outstanding achievements in quite a lot of categories, including energy efficiency and conservation in construction and industry, energy management, the usage of renewable energy sources and the use of fresh coal technologies. This distinction highlights the outstanding contributions of people and organizations in promoting sustainable energy practices within the ASEAN region.
As a part of AEBF 2023, the ASEAN Green Transport Rally was also successfully held in Nusa Dua, Bali. The rally featured clean vehicles similar to biodiesel, electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) that traveled from Jakarta to Surabaya and led to Bali on August 24, 2023.
AEBF 2023 also reaffirms ASEAN’s commitment to sustainable technologies and fuels. ASEAN Energy Ministers witnessed the conclusion of the rally, also a testament to the region’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
