A press release on Wednesday by Anwar’s former adviser, Muhammed Yusoff Rawther, accused the previous deputy prime minister of attempting to force him to have sex last September.
Reuters couldn’t immediately reach Muhammed Yusoff, but he read out the costs in a Facebook live broadcast on Wednesday. His statement was made to a legal officer, based on a replica seen by Reuters.
“I heard about it a month ago. This is nothing new, influence attempts, bribery or anything like that, but this is politics at its worst,” Anwar said on Thursday.
“Our congress will be held in two days, so there are various things to anticipate.”
