Malaysian police expect to finish their investigation right into a series of sex videos featuring a young politician and an older man resembling a cupboard minister “next week or every week after,” the country’s police chief said.

Haziq, a member of the ruling People’s Justice Party (PKR), named Economy Minister Azmin Ali as his partner who appeared with him within the video and said the minister was unfit to carry any government position.

Azmin denied it he was the person featured in the recording and claimed it was a “nefarious plot” to destroy his reputation and political career. The minister is seen as a rising star of the government and the PKR party, of which he is vice-chairman.

He told local media on Tuesday that he was “confident” the video was linked to his political appearances.

His lawyer also confirmed on Tuesday that Azmin had given a statement to police on Sunday and repeated the claim that the “notoriously fake sex videos” were a “politically motivated defamatory attack.”

“There are obvious signs of an organized and systematic attempt to discredit and bring down the minister with this false and malicious attack,” Azmin’s lawyer said.

“The perpetrators had access to disclosed personal data of party members, sophisticated means and a clear political program. We trust that the police will soon look into the matter, identify the perpetrators and take action against them in accordance with the law.”

PKR is led by incumbent Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, whom Azmin once served as his adviser. Azmin is currently seen as a possible challenger to Anwar.

Anwar rejected accusations that his party could be behind the video leak and said all 4 factions within the ruling coalition had agreed that he could be the following prime minister.

“Some say it’s because he [Azmin] poses a threat, but we already have an agreement on my position and the Prime Minister himself said so last week,” he told reporters last Saturday.

For four days, the country was hounded, hounded and haunted by Haziq’s sex video.

Senior Member of the Prime Minister Mahathir MohamadThe United Indigenous Party of Malaysia (PBBM) suggested that the mastermind behind the plot to discredit Azmin had been revealed to the police.

The sex video scandal involving Azmin stands out as the biggest challenge facing the ruling Pakatan Harapan coalition because it took office last 12 months, senior MP Lim Kit Siang said.

“For 4 days now, the country has been hounded, harassed and persecuted by Haziq’s sex video featuring the minister, which shows his power in destroying the Pakatan Harapan coalition and derailing PH’s ‘New Malaysia’ agenda,” Lim said.

“There is no doubt that Haziq’s sex video is the biggest challenge to Pakatan Harapan since the 14th general election last May and PH leaders must unite to move forward and not be derailed from the New Malaysia agenda.”
