China is Vietnam’s largest trading partner and a crucial source of imports for its manufacturing sector. The two countries are already connected by a system of highways and two railway lines, which on the Vietnamese side are old and require modernization.
One of the planned high-speed lines will run from the Vietnamese port cities of Haiphong and Quang Ninh through Hanoi to Lao Cai province, which borders China’s Yunnan province, the ministry said in a press release late within the evening.

The second would run from Hanoi to Lang Son province, which borders China’s Guangxi region, passing through a densely populated area that’s home to global manufacturing plants, including some owned by Chinese investors.
The ministry doesn’t provide further details of the projects.
Earlier this month, Vietnam said it desired to learn from China in developing its first high-speed rail network and sent its officials to work with Chinese railway firms.
The country can be planning to construct an enormous high-speed rail line connecting the capital of Hanoi with the business center of Ho Chi Minh City.
Trade between Vietnam and China in the primary quarter of this yr increased 22 percent from a yr earlier to $43.6 billion, based on Vietnamese government data.
