Hidden in plain sight between rice fields and luxurious forest within the village of Penestan in Kecamatan Ubud, Lift Bali was created without the usage of concrete to have a less invasive footprint and environmental impact. Designed by Bali-architect Alexis Dornierthe accommodations have been designed to mix seamlessly with the environment. Guests sleep surrounded by tree leaves, picket beams and the sounds of the jungle.
“Many developments on this island use large amounts of concrete and the experience is usually the identical. We desired to challenge this and create a light-weight architecture, while suggesting a surreal mixture of impermanent industrial structures set in a tropical forest,” said Dornier. Lonely planet.
There are three lodges, each named after a famous creator: Ernest Hemingway, George Orwell AND Stanley Kubrick.
Each room has four-poster beds set amongst cane furniture and dark wood paneling. Blinds cover the complete height of the windows, so guests can shower in peace before opening their rooms to the encircling jungle.
The detached houses could be reached via metal stairs that wind around a tree trunk. The bedroom is positioned on the primary floor, while the private outdoor terrace is on the second floor, shaded by a bamboo roof. Dornier said the “unpretentious” accommodations were designed as “spaces that folks can return to, disconnected and above the bottom.”
Stuck somewhere previously and future, it tries to mix different elements of Bali into an unforgettable experience and create a backdrop for photos value taking or remembering.
The park resembles a small sauna, a small swimming pool, a bar, benches and small recreational areas. That plus the yoga deck high above the bottom is reason enough to remain there for a number of days, as I quote: Daytime Arch.
What’s more, all this wildlife is just a brief trip away from Ubud’s cafes, bars and boutiques.
