Vietnam’s international destination visits in 2019

In 2019, 18,008,591 tourists arrived in Vietnam, a rise of 16.2% year-on-year, meaning the country achieved its goal.

In December alone, the variety of tourist arrivals amounted to 1,710,168, a rise of 24.4% in comparison with the identical period last yr.

Air arrivals reached 14,377,509, up 15.2%, while land arrivals were 3,366,937, up 20.4%.

The yr ended with China leading source markets with 5,806,425 visits, a rise of 16.9, but second-place South Korea recorded 4,290,902 visits, an improvement of 23.1%.

Japan continued to be the third strongest market with a rise of 951,962 visits of 15.2%, and Taiwan in fourth place delivered a rise of 926,744 visits of 29.8%.

The United States ranked fifth with 746,171 visits, an 8.6% improvement.

Russia continues to be a powerful marketplace for Vietnam with 646,524 visits up 6.6%.

In Asia, two markets showed exceptional improvement. Thailand added 509,802 people, a rise of 45.9%, while Malaysia added 606,206 people, a rise of 12.2%.

The increase in arrivals in 2019 is attributed to improved direct air services to major destinations in Vietnam, competitive fares and positive consumer survey feedback, which showed the country has gained awareness and recognition as a secure and attractive travel destination.

Other positive aspects included easier visa rules and the addition of a listing of visa-free nationalities.
