The latest Vietnamese president is the primary woman to carry this position

Vietnam has its first female president, with vice chairman Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thinh appointed after Tran Dai Quang’s death on Friday.

Thinh will function acting president until the National Assembly elects a brand new leader. Thinh has been vice chairman since April 2016.

Newsweek According to reports, she has been a member of the Communist Party since 1979. Born on Christmas Day 1959, the 59-year-old from the central province of Quảng Nam is the everlasting chairwoman of the Vietnam Women’s Union, in response to Vietnam News.

Quang, a former public security minister who has supported closer ties with the U.S. and strengthening the country’s private sector, hosted U.S. President Donald Trump during his first state visit to the communist country last 12 months.
