AirAsia seems to have hit some turbulence again and only due to its so-called overly sensual uniform.
Dr June Robertson, a New Zealander who describes herself as a “middle-aged skilled woman”, has written a letter to Umno senator Datuk Hanafi Mamata to focus on her “disgust” with the AirAsia uniform.
She claimed that she has been visiting Malaysia twice a 12 months for the past decade and emphasized that one among the explanations she loves Malaysia a lot is because, in her opinion, women “don’t dress like prostitutes”.
She said she “felt very offended by the extremely short skirts these women wear on AirAsia” and that she “found it quite disgusting because not everyone appreciates it.”
She didn’t just stop there.
She explained that she had the misfortune of seeing an air stewardess’s underwear after the stewardess bent over in a supermarket, and on one other occasion she had to inform the stewardess to “button up her jacket” since the top of her breasts were visible.
“I also wonder why a self-respecting country like Malaysia would allow this to happen,” Dr Robertson added.
And she’s not the just one who has reservations in regards to the AirAsia uniform.
Just last month, Hanafi suggested that every one Malaysian flight attendants should wear Sharia-compliant uniforms to assist “portray Malaysia as a Muslim country with strong Eastern values.”
While his proposal definitely sparked debate, it was ultimately rejected by the National Union of Flight Attendants in Malaysia (Nufam) since the union believed it violated employees’ individual rights.
Additionally, not everyone was completely happy with the best way Dr. Robertson handled the difficulty.
“I sincerely respect her two cents, but I cannot accept the way she gave it because you can always express your opinion in an appropriate and polite manner,” a former AirAsia cabin crew member told Malaysian Digest.
