It’s been 16 months since Google Home debuted, and today the smart speaker finally arrives in Southeast Asia. But for now, this only applies to at least one country: Singapore.
In addition to the Google Home Mini, the Google Home speaker might be sold online and in retail stores throughout the island state. There is not any word yet on when the newer Google Home Max might be available.
Google hasn’t revealed whether its Home Speaker might be sold in neighboring countries like Malaysia, and given the shortage of greater availability of its previously announced Google WiFi mesh routers, there’s little probability the Home Speaker will hit other markets for now (even though it has launched already in India just a few weeks ago).
However, Home has some neat tricks for its Singapore launch. It will support Singlish, an area English-based creole language, and could have access to local services corresponding to Bus Uncle, a public transport chatbot.
Google has also enabled multi-user support for the Singapore home, which was not available for imported devices purchased within the US. This implies that the Home will recognize your voice, in addition to the voice of everyone living with you. It will have the opportunity to offer personalized schedules or music depending on who requests it.
Google Home and Home Mini devices might be purchased online from Singapore’s Google Store or in retail stores from April 20 for S$189 and S$79 respectively.
