On-time performance (OTP) is becoming an increasingly beneficial marketing message for airlines and airports around the globe as the newest OAG results for 2018 are released.
58 million flights were tracked, including one special service in 25vol December, it is obvious that many airlines are linking on-time flights to their broader business success.
The most punctual airline in 2018 is Copa Airlines, followed by airBaltic and Hong Kong Airlines; carriers in three very different markets which have focused heavily on this KPI over the past few years.
Among the airports, the brand new entity – Minsk – achieved the very best level of on-time performance, followed by Panama City in second place and Osaka in third place.
Of course, a whole lot of attention was paid to the Mega Airlines category, and the standout performer on this category was LATAM Airlines Group, followed by Japan’s two largest airlines, All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines. For LATAM Airlines, which has complex operations in many alternative Latin American countries, the outcomes are particularly impressive.
The key challenges highlighted in previous annual reports appear to have resulted in some improvement; it was most impressive in China, where the three largest local airlines made significant progress year-on-year. Similarly, the impact of external aspects on airline performance, comparable to labor disputes and weather, has clearly impacted the performance of some carriers in Europe.
