According to a researcher from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one in all the country’s top research institutes, China plans to construct a next-generation synchrotron radiation facility in Beijing.
Researcher Dong Yuhui said construction of the project is anticipated to begin in November next 12 months and be accomplished inside six years.
The total investment shall be 4.8 billion yuan ($698.4 million).
The facility, called Beijing Light Source, will meet national security requirements and produce, amongst other things, aerospace materials.
This will provide a high-resolution method to raised understand relevant structures.
Beijing Light Source shall be the so-called fourth-generation light source, and its key performance indicators shall be higher than those of the third generation.
It will produce the brightest X-rays on the planet, 70 times brighter than the US Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) and 10 times brighter than Sweden’s MAX IV, the world’s strongest such object up to now.
The vivid X-rays will help measure the atomic structure of assorted substances, and the greater brightness will help people see more details of the substance, which is like using a flashlight to take a look at things, Dong said.

Currently, there are first- to third-generation light sources in China, equivalent to the first-generation BSRF facility in Beijing, the second-generation NHLS facility in Hefei, Anhui Province, and the third-generation SSRF facility in Shanghai.
There are over 50 such facilities around the globe providing support in lots of research areas.
The light source plays a crucial role in medicine, helping researchers understand the mechanisms of cancer and cerebrovascular diseases.
