The first wind farm in Indonesia is sort of ready!

The Indonesian government is currently completing construction of the 100-hectare Sidrap wind farm in Sindereng Rappang Regency in South Sulawesi. It is the country’s first wind energy project and the biggest of its kind in Southeast Asia.

Progress in the development of the wind farm has reached 90 percent, the spokesman for the state-owned energy company I Made Suprateka announced in Jakarta, as reported by the portal tribunews.com.

He said 25 of the full 30 wind turbines (WTGs) have been accomplished and the remaining five wind turbines will likely be accomplished in February.

“The Sidrap wind farm is part of a 35,000 MW electricity generation program,” Made said.

Meanwhile, PLN CEO Sofyan Basyir said the corporate has rigorously studied the project to make sure that the wind farm will likely be accomplished on schedule.

“The Sidrap wind farm uses 40 percent local materials and will employ 500 people,” Sofyan said, adding that the farm will produce 75 MW of electricity and serve as much as 70,000 households.
