Malaysia formally installed its fifteenth king on Tuesday (December 13). in Kuala Lumpur (KL).
Sultan Muhammad V, 47, was chosen by the Conference of Rulers at its 243rd meeting in October to take over the duties of Sultan Abdul Halim in Kedah.
Upon his arrival in KL following his ceremonial departure from Kelantan on Tuesday morning, Sultan Muhammad V was welcomed by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak at Parliament Square, where he inspected the guard of honor.
During the special 244th meeting at Istana Negara, Sultan Muhammad V, who studied at St Cross College, Oxford and the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies, took the oath of office because the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
During the ceremony, Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak was also announced as the brand new king’s deputy.
Sultan Abdul Halim of Kedah (89) and his wife received a symbolic gift return on Monday at the top of his five-year term under a rotating monarchy system.
