The Indonesian National Air Transport Association (INACA) has requested that the groundbreaking of the Terminal IV project at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Cengkareng be expedited or held together with the development of a 3rd runway planned this yr.
INACA President Bayu Sutanto welcomes PT Angkasa Pura II’s plan to extend the variety of passenger terminals at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
“We appreciate that Angkasa Pura II has prepared a pre-emptive measure to extend the airport’s capability in the longer term. This mustn’t be the case previously when expectations were delayed,” he said in Jakarta on Monday (August 14). However, Bayu further said that INACA hopes that the development of Terminal IV could be carried out concurrently or in parallel with the planned construction of the third runway of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
According to him, if this could be achieved, airlines will look to the longer term with greater optimism towards the event of the aviation industry. Of course, airlines can even turn into increasingly confident of their pursuit of expansion.

“Let the public, domestic and foreign airlines know that the government and state-owned enterprises (BUMNs) are now serious about meeting the needs of passengers and airlines. It will also be a good advertisement for Angkasa Pura II,” he said.

Moreover, says Bayu, the federal government should speed up infrastructure development, given the present state of infrastructure, especially air transport, which still lags far behind the pace of demand growth.

PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero), the operator of Soekarno-Hatta Airprot Airport, plans to construct a brand new airport, Soekarno-Hatta Airport 2. The construction of the brand new airport is meant to accommodate the growing passenger and air traffic currently at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) CEO Muhammad Awaluddin said the present capability of Soekarno-Hatta Airport is predicted to succeed in its maximum level in 2025.
“After the construction of runway 3 and terminal 4, Soekarno-Hatta airport will not be able to accommodate passengers and aircraft, the number of which is increasing every year,” he said recently.

According to Awaluddin, in 2025 the variety of passengers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport is predicted to succeed in roughly 100 million people.
This amount will exceed the present capability of Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The current capability of Soekarno-Hatta Airport is roughly 60 million passengers per yr.
To meet the growing variety of passengers, AP II is currently preparing the development of Terminal 4 situated on the Soewarna warehouses. Terminal 4 of Soekarno Hatta Airport will occupy 300,000 square meters, which is barely smaller than Terminal 3, which is built on an area of 400,000 square meters.
In addition to the passenger terminal, AP II can even construct a 3rd runway measuring 3,000 x 60 square meters.
The recent runway is predicted to be operational next yr and can have the ability to handle 114 flights per hour at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
The construction of the third runway is consistent with the key project of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to extend capability on the air side. (TRB/TPP)
