The Macao and Variety International Film Festival and Awards (IFFAM) have joined forces for the second 12 months in a row to focus on Asian acting talent.
Leading local official Maria Helena Senna de Fernandes spoke at a well-attended celebrity press event in Macau on Friday afternoon. She turned the microphone over five actors from different corners of the region who dazzled with a poise and wisdom beyond their years.
The 2017 talent selection included Celina Jade, Ludi Lin, Rajkummar Rao, Shioli Kutsuna, Piolo Pascual and Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying, higher generally known as the star of “Bad Genius”.
This 12 months’s five participants – Xana Tang (New Zealand), Ann Curtis (Philippines), Zheng Kai (China), Zaira Wasim (India) and Iqbaal Ramadhan (Indonesia) – will receive their trophies on stage on the evening of December 14 throughout the IFFAM closing ceremony.
Xana Tang (New Zealand)
Best known for her role as an offbeat office assistant in two seasons of the TV series Filthy Rich, Xana Tang has been working in film and tv since 2012 in her native New Zealand, and most recently in Australia.
He is of Chinese and Vietnamese descent. She’s faced all the standard prejudices within the industry – Asians are forged as conscientious students or that only a limited audience desires to see Asians on screen – and she or he says that is just other people’s reality. Her big profession move is coming: she plays Xiu, Mulan’s sister, in Disney’s mega-budget live-action adaptation of the classic Chinese tale, alongside Gong Li, Jet Li and Donnie Yen.
Anne Curtis (Philippines)

Iqbaal Ramadan (Indonesia)
Iqbaal Ramadhan was a toddler actor in “Rainbow Troops” (also generally known as “Laskar Pelangi”), one among the best Indonesian movies of all time. But for a couple of years he was higher generally known as a musician within the band Coboy Junior, later renamed CJR. The band was so popular that two movies were made about them.
After winning acting awards for his roles, Ramadhan is now specializing in his acting profession and further education (within the US and Australia). This 12 months, he stars in “Dilan 1990,” an adaptation of the favored novel. She made her debut role within the film Dangal with Aamir Khan, by which she played the younger version of Indian athlete Geeta Phogat. Her second role was because the predominant character of the musical story “Secret Superstar”.
Both were blockbusters in India, each broke records in China. They each won major Wasim awards. After bravely battling depression, Wasim might be next seen as a motivational speaker within the film ‘The Sky is Pink’, produced by and starring Priyanka Chopra.
