Obama goes on a water rafting trip and visits the rice terraces in Indonesia, his childhood home

Barack Obama has began a 10-day family vacation in Indonesia, which is able to visit Bali and Jakarta – town where he spent a part of his childhood.

The informally dressed former president arrived in Bali along with his wife Michelle and two daughters for a five-day vacation on the Island of the Gods.

So far during their vacation in Bali, they’ve visited several tourist attractions, including the Agung Rai Art Museum, Jatiluwih Rice Terraces and the Ayung River.

During a surprise visit to the museum, the Obamas witnessed a kid’s rehearsal of a standard dance It depends AND Punch.

“It’s on a regular basis life here. I’m surprised,” Agung Rai said tempo.cothe owner of the museum comments on whether it was prepared especially for Obama.

The next day, the Obamas reportedly traveled to the village of Jatiluwih in Tabanan. Known for its breathtaking views of the rice terraces, this area is roughly 54 km from Denpasar and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Obama and his family reportedly walked a 500-meter mountaineering trail that circles rice fields. They then visited Pura Subak, meeting with local farmers.

Obama and his relations also went to the Ayung River in Bongkasa village in Badung, which is a stone’s throw from their hotel, the Four Seasons Resort Ubud. Compass reported that Obama and his entourage spent two hours cruising the river in six boats with five skilled guides.

Next week, the family is scheduled to travel to Yogyakarta, where they’re scheduled to go to the traditional Borobudur temple. They will spend two days there before flying to Jakarta.

Obama spent 4 years, until 1970, as a boy within the then sleepy capital of Indonesia after his divorced mother married an Indonesian.

Many Indonesians felt a robust bond with Obama because of his exposure to Indonesia and its culture, even making him a two-meter bronze statue that was placed in his former school.

Indonesia’s foreign ministry said Obama’s holiday visit to Indonesia followed several invitations from President Joko Widodo.

While within the capital, Obama will meet with the president on June 30, and the following day he’ll deliver a speech on the Indonesian diaspora convention.
